The 2008 Shenandoah Mountain 100
2 September 2008 in RidesA great weekend that is best told with pictures. Hope you enjoy.
A packed car…
A great campsite…
Lindsay and Bobby actually can put a tent up! We were impressed.
We had pink flamingos guarding our camp.
We made new friends. Luke and Annie had a campsite near us. We helped him with his bike. Not successfully, though…
Steve tries to get some action. Jenny is not interested. Nicky dissapproves of this unholy mess.
We made more friends. Lindsay and Bobby stood and stared at this riders package (Niner Jet). Steve is also impressed.
The partying started early. Keg stands were a popular activity followed by a question and response cheer that asked; “How long are we going to ride??”
The response in unison; “ALL DAY!!!”
Sunrise. We were awoken at 5am by a rider with a bullhorn yelling “Welcome to the Thunder Dome, Bitches”
The starting line.
Nicky and Steve starting their long rides.
Sue Haywood was at the race cheering riders as they passed checkpoints.
Jenny enthusiasticly working the food table at checkpoint 3.
Our new friend Grace who help riders get their bikes lubed up for the last 50 miles.
Nicky kindly asking her peanut butter and jelly sandwich to “be quiet.”
The finish line where riders and spectators gathered to cheer riders as they completed their journey.
Jenny anxiously awaiting the first Log Posse rider at the finsh line. The vigil begins.
To pass the time, we reached for the cooler a few times.
The vigil continues as the sun has set behind the mountains. After 15 hours of riding, the Log Posse riders had completed their mission.
Sunrise the next morning. We started breaking down the campsite with this beautiful view.
Leaving the campground in search of a place to throw away our trash.
A big round of applause to Steve, Bobby, Lindsay and Nicky for their tremendous accomplishments. We will provide photographic evidence of their reward provided by Arne once they figure out how to get “it” in a bag. If you dont understand, believe me, you dont want too.

My beloved Fatleg, I believe the bet specified a jar and not a bag. Trust me, we will find a way to get “it” into the jar.
Steve, Lindsay and Bobby, may I cook you some beans?
Hey Arne and Jen!
My husband sent this link to me and wrote in subject line “you on someones blog and of course the cheesy smile”. It was great meeting you and working checkpoint 3 together. I always forget to avoid grabbing the seats of the bikes…yucko. Hope your crew had a good time and might be in for 2009. Todd Lake showers may be not so secret anymore but I just found a great swimming hole we took a dip in before leaving Stokesville.
Take care,
Grace
